Detailed description of Chicopee Woods Golf Course, Village-Mill-School

Chicopee Woods Golf Course, is a Public, 27 hole golf course facility located in Gainesville, Georgia.

Chicopee Woods offers 27 holes of Championship Golf. Each of the 9 hole courses is serenely set in the woods; free of any urban development. The Village and The School are part of our original 1991 course with The Mill opening in 2001. Each offering its own "unique" experience.

The Village is best known for its elevation changes and excellent vista views.

The Mill is somewhat friendlier with two very fun par 5's. The Mill is also regarded as the "most popular" by the majority of players.

The School has generous fairways and several "risk" "reward" opportunities and ends with a dramatic shot over the water to the finishing hole.

Down here on business and this course highly recommended by the locals and I know why. With three (3) nine-hole loops, having five (5) tee box selections, you can pick 18 holes anywhere from 7,000 - 4,800yds.

I chose "Village/School" Blue tees at 3,328yd/3,278yd /71.5/135/Par 36/36. I would recommend playing the School or Mill first and then Village because of the difficulty for forced carries.

The Village (3,561yd) #1 starts right out with an uphill 349yd Par 4 to an elevated green. This will be a familiar design throughout the courses here, uphill shots to elevated greens. Meandering grassy bunkers frame the rolling fairways along with a ravine that raises it's head....many times. The forced carries are raised landing areas, so use your range finders and choose the correct tee boxes. Hole #8 is a Left hand dogleg 380yd Par 4 that requires a 210yd carry from the Blues or face.....rejection. Finishing hole #9 a 521yd Par 5 is uphill all the way and a Par will make the day worthwhile.

The School layout is pretty much the same but with friendlier fairways and no real forced carries from the tees. #1 hole 398yd Par 4 hcp3 mirrors #1 Village being all uphill. The #6 hole a 407yd uphill par 4 is the 1 hcp and if you get inside 200yd marker, you might have a chance at Par. Hole #9 a 546yd Par 5 sets up for a easy Par if you play for the 125yd market. The 100yd marker is on the downhill slope, towards the pond. Enjoyed playing here, even though the fairway grass is dormant and a little soggy from the rain. Greens putted true (8-9) and held all shots with firm sand being playable, though wet.

Ended up shooting 43/39 w/34 putts with Callaway clubs supplied by Keith the starter for free, thanks. The $38.00 spent for this golfing afternoon experience was well spent and you should try it too.

A little slow in play, and somewhat pricey. The course (I played Mill and School) was in very good shape, and the greens were true. Senior tees were appreciated.

I had played these courses (27 holes) for years before I moved to this area. Good golf for the money. I find the course to be in good condition every time I am there, and the staff is friendly.

I've played this course for many years when it was an 18 hole layout. Holes 1 and 2 at the Village eat up slicers with lost balls or unplayable lies are the penalty. Had my 2nd hole-in-1 on 4. Number 8 is a nice challenge over a grassed ravine to a flat fairway on top then your approach to a green where death lies long with only a little relief left and right. 9 is a very diverse par 5. The School layout is another diverse 9 holes. No. 2 is a short dogleg right par 4 where many longer hitter cut the corner to the green, but has lots of trouble on the right side. Number 6 is the toughest hole on the course, requiring a drive straight away. Left is a lake and right makes the difficult shot over the lake, up the hill to a two tiered green very long. A par feels like a birdie. 9 is a beautiful finishing par 5. If you're really long off the tee, a 225yd blind shot over the hill to an island type green awaits the intrepid. Even the layup shot requires a precice shot to no closer than 125 yards or you risk that the ball will roll down the hill and into the lake. The Mill which was added last is a different type of layout than the other 2 nines. The first hole with a decent drive allows you to go for the green and a birdie is a good possibility. The second hole a short par three to a large green over water is a delight to play. The other par three, no. 5 is very long, 200yds from the white tees to a huge green at the end of a valley. Bail out to the right side gives you a safe chip or long put if the pin is on the left. 7 is a drivable par 4 if you can it it 240 plus over a field of bunkers, but a safe drive to the left still only leaves you a 100yar or less approach. The Mill and Village are my two favorite to play.

Several greens were roughed up, as well as, not being in great condition. However, the fairways were better than decent. Not terribly challenging and don't read much break in any of the greens because there aren't any breaks. Pretty much straight putting from wherever the lie. Overall, it was okay. Not terribly busy for a Saturday, so pace of play wasn't an issue.

Great course, staff was a bit pushy about keeping pace of play up... They got a little huffy about us taking a short lunch break after the first 9. Afterall why is the club house there at the turn anyway??? That said we never had anyone at our heels and waited at most holes for the group in fromt of us. So no need to push right? I would have understood if we had been holding play up, but we wewere waiting on the groups in front.
